FUTURE BEGINS IN OUR PRESENT PLANS
It is normal that after having
accomplished a goal or a wish in life, we get a deep feeling of freedom, a
sense that everything is done and that we deserve a good rest. It is valid to feel that way, but is valid just
for a while. Many people think of having a Sabbatical time to devote their
lives to travel, to spend more time with the family or to do other kind of
activities that were procrastinated.
Some people will have the opportunity
to travel, maybe to farer places, which in my opinion is a wonderful way to
widen up our view of world and life.Others will prefer stay with family, especially
if they have kids. They will have the time to go outside and play with them or
simply go to the corner store for an ice cream. Many others will do some cooking, fixing
things at home or meeting old friends to drink a cup of coffee.
Whichever it may be the activity, it
is also important to take some time to think about longer term goals in life. If we go back in time, we will realize that
after having felt that completeness in our previous accomplished goals, it
suddenly sparked the idea of what was next.
So, I encourage you that after having
a deserved rest, make plans that projects your future by making yourself a
simple question: Where do I want to be in next five, ten or more years?
Would you like to share here some
ideas about your future plans?

Thank you for your post, Vilma! It is very instructive and makes people analyze about what to do in future. Actually, I share the same opinion about having a well-deserved rest, but at the same time, I'm planning thousand of things to this coming December and even, the next year.
ReplyDeleteAs Norman Vincent Peale said, "Successful people never say 'I've got it made,' but rather set new projects and goals for future saying "and now what's next?"
I think that is completely true, after achieving a goal we feel complete and want to enjoy the moment, but after that we now we need to continue improving because you realize that it is not all there is to achieve. Right now I am bit uncertain about what the next step will be, because I fully aware this is just the beginning. So as the saying goes "every end is a new beginning".
ReplyDeleteHi Vilma, good point, it's ok to feel relaxed after accomplishing a big goal but we need to keep in mind that time keeps running and we must keep moving. One of my long-term goals is to write a book or a guide for Spanish-English translators living in Guatemala. But right now, some of my short-term goals are: rest, enjoy end-of-year holidays and sleep as much as I can. Next year I'll have time to write.
ReplyDeleteOf course, you know that is exactly what I´ve been thinking lately. What will be the next step after graduating?
ReplyDeleteI am not exactly sure right now but I have several ideas in mind.
Hi Vilma, it is very important always to have goals, projects to do, it keeps us alive, and also it is important to have the short-term and long-term projects so we can organize, think about what we want to do, how we are going to do it, thank you to remember us that we are alive and for the moment I want to pass my final tests, present Seminario, enjoy my short vacations.
